In part of my dream that I can recall, I was supporting a child that I work with as a therapist in my waking life, but this is a child. I worked with many years ago, but he was the age that he was when I worked with him so about 10 or 11 and he has High Support needs and autism and some difficulty with motor coordination and so he needs a lot of support. I dreamt that I was sort of in my hometown, but also in LA at the same time like depending on where you drove, you would end up places that I’ve seen in both of these places And I was driving kind of a big van like a multi passenger van and transporting him around the city I had seen there’s this podcast. I’d like to listen to my waking life by Busy Philipps who was an actress and I heard her talk about this grocery store in LA and so I wanted to take this kid to the store. I don’t know there was like something I wanted to try there so we went there and There was a series of events where I would kind of redirect my attention to like getting the food or whatever I was trying to get and this child while I was looking away for a few minutes would kind of get into a situation so there was one moment where he kind of sat in this Bucket of water and like he was fully immersed in the water and I was like oh no like we have to get you out and get you dry and so he took him to the lake larger stall in the bathroom like the disability stall and was trying to get him cleaned up and dried off but every time I would look away for a few minutes like I had to I was texting with his dad to like coordinate the pick up, and when I looked the way he was sitting in another bucket of water so I was trying to like help him from his backpack like a clean clothes and things like that, and I finally got him all situated and dried off, and I put him in my car and then as I was driving him back to his house I realized that his parents were coming to pick him up. I wasn’t supposed to be driving him and then I was really confused about what to do and so I was like OK I’ll just drive him back really fast and pretend that I never drove him and then I was worried about like how we wouldwalk back into the mall like the outdoor mall space where the grocery store was without his parents noticing that we had left and I was just very worried about that and it didn’t really get revolved. I don’t remember if there was a resolution to it, but the dream just changed.
Dreams often contain a mix of personal experiences, subconscious thoughts, and emotions, and they can be quite symbolic. Let's explore the different elements of your dream:
The Child: The child in your dream represents a part of your past, particularly your experiences, responsibilities, and feelings when working with him. Since he was the same age as when you last worked with him, it indicates unresolved emotions or a lingering connection to that time in your life. The child's needs and challenges may symbolize an aspect of your life or work that requires significant attention and care.
The Locations (Hometown and LA): The mixture of your hometown and Los Angeles suggests a merging of familiar and new experiences, or perhaps a blending of past and present. It might indicate that you are navigating a current life situation that feels both familiar and uncharted.
Driving the Van: Driving the large van can symbolize a sense of responsibility or leadership. You are the one in control, tasked with navigating and managing the complexities of the journey, symbolizing your role as a therapist and caregiver.
The Podcast and Grocery Store: Wanting to visit a place mentioned in a podcast might symbolize a desire for exploration, trying new things, or being influenced by a blend of entertainment and reality. It shows your curiosity and perhaps a wish to incorporate fun and discovery into routine tasks.
The Incidents with Water: The child repeatedly getting into situations with water might symbolize the unpredictable nature of caregiving. Water can also represent emotions, and the child’s immersion in it may suggest a need to address emotional situations or help others through their feelings.
Communicating with the Father: Texting with the child's father indicates an attempt to coordinate and communicate effectively in real life. It highlights the balance of responsibilities and ensuring that you meet the expectations set by others, such as parents or guardians in your professional life.
Confusion About Driving: Realizing you weren't supposed to drive the child and feeling anxious about this reflects a fear of overstepping boundaries or making unintentional mistakes in your responsibilities. The worry about how the parents would perceive your actions indicates concern over judgment or a desire to maintain a level of professionalism.
Unresolved Ending: The unresolved ending aligns with how we sometimes feel in life—issues may remain open-ended, and our subconscious may carry these unresolved feelings into our dreams.
Overall, your dream might be reflecting your subconscious processing of your responsibilities, past experiences, and how they relate to your current life, possibly emphasizing care, concern, and the balance between helping others and meeting personal and professional obligations.
